strawberry picking & summer fun list!

Last Friday we were able to go strawberry picking with some friends and it was so much fun! However, we somehow managed to look way more put together in these pics than the reality 😂 It was so crazy hot that day and we weren't able to beat the heat since we were all delayed that morning. By the time we got there the sun was high in the sky and it was humid. We had sunscreen and lots of water though so we were excited to start picking! We met at Basse's Farm  and that place is everything you'd imagine a country strawberry picking experience to be! We rode a huge tractor up to the fields and then were left to pick a specific spot. One tip if you're going with little one's like ours try to go earlier in the day because by the time we got there it was a rough start. Cristian had just woken up from a small nap in the car and he's kind of a little bear after naps and he hadn't fully shaken it all off by the time we were dropped off. It all worked out once he saw that he could actually eat all of the strawberries he wanted haha I'm so thankful for our friends who were so incredibly helpful since I was flying solo and it's always great to have an extra set of hands! I can't wait to go back for pea and raspberry picking!

I was asked by a few of you to share some summer fun ideas and I wanted to share a few spots we frequent and also hope to visit this summer! There are so many great summer fun lists out there like Calie's over at Miltown Moms  and I definitely recommend checking out here weekend lists too 😎

Splash Pads (free!)

Hart Park splash pad- this is a fantastic spot and it's a well-kept secret! I can't find any direct link to it online but you can't miss it. It's located on the other side of the bleachers here's some info of what it looks like!
Enderis Park splash pad (this is in the center of a quiet neighborhood in Milwaukee)
Jacobus Park- this park is not only great for hiking as a family & it also has a little splash pond!

Hiking (mostly parking fee)

Wehr Nature Center- we love hiking this park! It's a long trail but parts of it are doable with little one's. And it's especially spectacular in the Fall 😍

Schlitz Audobon - make this a day trip!

Urban Ecology Center
Beach Day (free!)

Harrington Beach - this is at the top of our beach list this year with its clean beaches and hiking trails it's a must visit just about 30 mn away from the city!
Klode Park Beach- beauty abounds!
Pewaukee Beach- currently closed but check back throughout summer!
Bradford Beach- it gets really crazy busy here but it's in our downtown and lots of fun!
Door County-
I'm hoping to plan a weekend visit here this summer and if you haven't ventured out to this part of Wisconsin- it is beautiful and there's so much to do!

And of course what summer fun lists is complete without a trip to the Wisconsin State Fair !?

And if you were wondering my overalls are available here (I love the fit and they're perfect for summer!)  Similar overalls here , here and here .

My top is here but is selling out fast (all petite sizing available!) but here is a similar and my sandals are here and bandana  is here.

happy birthday Lucia/ Lucia's birth story

It seemed so surreal looking at all of these photos almost a year later as we prepare to celebrate Lucia's first birthday. I've tried to write this story a few times but each time I wasn't able to finish. I know it's because I wasn't ready to face that perhaps this was my last pregnancy. But also that this was the hardest labor for me! I still remember all of the details vividly and I fought back a few tears trying to gather all of my memories from the big day. I don't want to come across as histrionic but it truly was a challenge that took all of the strength in my being to complete. As you might know, I have had natural med-free labors with the boys at a hospital and I was fully prepared to do the same with Lucia. I honestly did not expect to be overdue much less schedule an induction. Especially after Cristian's big entrance a day before I scheduled his! I always tell mom's when they ask me for tips on natural labor to always be flexible and prepared just in case things don't go as planned. Because the end goal is to have both baby and mama alive and well! Truthfully, however, I hadn't taken my own advice and when it came time to schedule my induction I was really sad. It took a lot of conversations with Ben to share my wishes of having the least interventions possible. I scheduled my induction for 6/13/2016 at 9 am.

instagram round-up!

I hope you all had an amazing weekend! It's finally feeling like summer here in Milwaukee and I'm loving it 😄 As promised I wanted to make sure I shared another Instagram round-up of photos I only share on my Instagram account. I know many of you don't follow me over there so I'll keep trying to stay up-to-date with them! I'm also going to try to write about all of the products I only share on my Instastory that I get lots of questions about!

Madewell & the Milwaukee Art Museum

Last weekend I had the pleasure of styling some clothes for Madewell at the Milwaukee Art Museum. I shared tons of BTS on my Instagram story and it was so incredible to be a part of such a fun project. I also met four local lifestyle blogger babes and that was an added bonus! It's always so wonderful to connect with women who are doing the same kind of work. If you've followed me for a while now then you know that I am such a huge fan of the Milwaukee Art Museum. It is a local gem and we're so lucky to have such an amazing organization right in our city! The Milwaukee Art Museum was actually one of the first places Benjamin and I visited when we moved here for Ben's medical school career over 6 years ago (cannot believe it's been that long).

I was having a really hard time getting used to our new city and even though I was in Minneapolis for graduate school most of the week I was honestly struggling big-time to love Milwaukee. But once we visited the lakeshore and the museum my heart literally opened up. I kid you not! I began to see Milwaukee in a different light and realized all of the amazing things that it had to offer. The museum became a frequent destination for us and soon I would be chasing the boys down the Calatrava pavilion. If you haven't visited the museum yet I hope you do so soon! There's always something fun happening and the Kohl's ArtGeneration Studio is a fantastic spot to bring your little's. I'm also giving away a membership plus a $50 giftcard to Madewell over on my Instagram and Facebook! You still have time to enter 😉

Also, the new store opens up on June 6th at Mayfair Mall in Wauwatosa and 10% of opening day sales will go to the museum! Plus, museum members get 20% off at Madewell all-year-long 😄 I hope to see you there at the opening-day party at 6pm!

instagram round-up!

If you're a mama I hope you had a wonderful Mother's Day weekend! I couldn't have asked for a more perfect day with my crew. I was even able to sleep in which is kind of unbelievable 😂 I'm writing a separate post with some pictures we snapped at the Boener Botanical Gardens and will share later this week! Today I wanted to have a quick IG round-up of posts that are exclusive only to my Instagram account. I'm sometimes asked about different items that I share on my Instastories or a photo I share and then I'll link the items on my Like to Know It app and online marketplace for easier shopping. However, I'll then forget to share them on the blog and that's why I think I'll start doing more IG round-ups for ya'll! I hope you find this helpful 😊

living room refresh reveal!

I have been looking forward to sharing this space with you guys for the past couple of months! If you follow me on Instagram I've shared lots of BTS of the progress. When we decided to refresh the living room it was because we were so tired of the paint color and we wanted to brighten up the space. This old house has so many charming details that we wanted to highlight them since they were totally being hidden by the decor and paint that was in here. I know I've mentioned this before but even when we lived in our tiny apartment it felt so great to make the space our home while we were there! We know this is not our forever home and we will be moving in the next 2-3 years after residency once Benjamin gets his big boy job as an attending lol. We also know this time will undoubtedly fly by but it's still a significant amount of time to live in a room that we do not love! We really wanted to create a space that was a retreat for us. This area doubles as a family room and formal living room. I also wanted to create a 'mudroom' area at the beginning of the house where we could put our shoes and hang our coats. It was a little tricky figuring out how to separate this area without making it look crowded but I LOVE how it all turned out!

mother's day gift guide & $50 giveaway! :)

As I write this I'm also thinking about my day with my three silly little gooses. Tonight Cristian and I slow danced in the living room before bed to a rendition of 'The Way You Look Tonight" and he was giggling and kept asking me to "turn around!' which meant twirl with him. He held my face with his chubby little fingers while he squished his little nose against mine and it was the sweetest thing ever. Gabriel was acting pretty strong-willed this afternoon while we went to the park and he's getting really good at flipping what I say to him around! But then we got home and asked "Come Mami chase me and then tickle me!" How could I say no to that sweetness and his cheesy little grin?! Lucia has been teething real hard these past few weeks but she'll still smile with me and would rather have me hold her which I don't mind. I know this doesn't last forever. So much of our day is busy and demanding but as I sit here and think back all I can think about are these moments that stand out the most. As Mother's Day approaches I can't help but think how they are my biggest gifts and I feel so incredibly blessed to be their mother!
I'm seriously still in shock that it's May and even more so that Mother's Day is just around the corner! I wanted to put a quick gift guide together for any of you that might be needing some ideas. I'm always trying to find creative gifts but also things that are useful, ya know?! There are so many amazing gift guides out there but I wanted to add things that are both fun and for just about every budget.  Although gifts are always lovely, thoughtful gestures always win me over! If I could sleep in for about 2 hours then I will be set haha! Since our three are still pretty tiny and have no idea what Mother's Day is Benjamin usually has something special planned if he has off from work. Honestly, I just want all of us to be able to head to church together and have a lowkey afternoon eating waffles and hopefully enjoying a nice walk in warm weather! I hope you all get spoiled and sleep in too haha! I also wanted to give away a little something to one you lovelies and if you scroll down to the bottom of this post you can sign-up via rafflecopter for a chance to win $50 to one of my fave stores! Bet you can't guess which one ;P

1. I'm obsessed with the blush color of this Fit Bit Alta HR !
2. I love  Jo Malone fragrances and candles. It's such simple luxury and worth the splurge!
3. I go everywhere with my s'Well water bottle! It's such a great gift that is so useful especially for mama's like me that forget stay hydrated. This keeps things cold for 24 hrs and hot drinks for up to 12 and how pretty is this bottle?!
4. How cute are these tropical pj's and they come with an eye-mask too !
5. Wireless headphones are one of those thing's that I always think about buying for the gym but never do and these are so sleek!
6. Okay, so the Clarisonic cleansing system always makes my mother's day guide because it is truly that good.
7. I love a fun twist on a classic style and these pearl earrings are so chic!
8. I love coffee table books because they're beautiful and easy way to style a living room. I have this Vogue Style one in my shopping cart. Also- Humans of New York is such a cool gift and the stories are both heartwarming and eye-opening!
9. Who doesn't love cute work-out gear?! I always feel more motivated to work-out when I have the right gear that also happens to look cute and fit well. I also love the color of these Nike Roshe two kicks!
10. Candles are always a sweet and simple gift. This pineapple candle smells so good and once the candle burns out the container can be used to style a shelf!
11. These Karen Walker sunnies are so gorgeous and will surely brighten any mama on your list day!
12. I'm convinced everyone needs a Fiddle Leaf Fig tree in their home haha! If you follow me on Instagram and watch my Instastory then you know that I recently ordered my first Fiddle Leaf Fig tree online! They really are so beautiful in person. The reason I love giving plants as gifts is because if they are well taken care of then they will most likely last a lifetime. How special is that?! These trees are a bit picky and require lots of filtered sunlight (by a bright window) and they like to be dry between watering. Other than that once you receive it don't re-pot it right away until it gets used to your home and environment (give it a few months)!
13. Giving a Tiffany Key necklace is something that will be timeless and special. My Tiffany necklace is such a special piece of jewelry and I'm not a huge jewelry person!

Now for the really fun part! I wanted to give away a little something for a mama to spoil herself a bit this Mother's Day!  :)

spring fashion: basics

I hope you all had a great weekend! We had a good one even though we're on this long 15 day stretch of work for Ben. He has some 24 hour shifts mixed in so that always presents a different type of challenge. Do you guys ever feel a need to head to church to re-group and focus on something other than the daily grind you're facing?

#TBT Easter egg dying and interview with Benjamin!

I was going through some photos this past weekend and I realized that I never shared some of our Easter pictures with you guys! We had such a great Easter weekend and it was so nice having Benjamin home to celebrate too. We spent time with family a few days prior and decided to keep the weekend more lowkey. Every year we dye eggs and this year was the most fun yet! The boys were so into all of the details and it was such a fun way to share stories and a little bit of history behind why eggs are used as a symbolism of life. These pictures also got me thinking about how awesome it is to have such a hands-on husband and how truly blessed we are. I know so very mushy but I honestly don't think I say it enough and I know that words of affirmation is something Benjamin appreciates and so I am working on that daily! I've also been asked more recently about how Benjamin learned Spanish and his experience with raising our children bilingual. It's been really helpful having Benjamin speak Spanish at home too. He's so much better at it than me some days haha! I decided the best way to share his experience as a non-native speaker raising our children bilingual was to interview him! If you scroll to the bottom of this post you can read the full interview. As always, I think my biggest tip for learning a second language is to practice. Also, if you can surround yourself with people that speak it then that is so effective!

chicago weekend!

This past weekend Benjamin had a conference in Chicago and we decided that it would be a good idea to tag along so that we could have some fun family time in the city! We knew we wouldn't have a ton of time but we really wanted to make the most of it while we were there.

DIY desk & shelves

I hope you all had an amazing Holiday weekend! We are wrapping up a week of 'staycation' and Benjamin being home. It's been such a great week and we've really been able to enjoy it to the fullest! It's always so nice to have free time together as a family and slow down during Benjamin's crazy residency schedule. Of course, it felt like it flew by but at least we had the time and now we're all feeling relaxed and replenished to move forward. If you have been following our living room refresh on Instagram then you know that last weekend we had our living room painted and you guys I am obsessed! The color is Distant Star by Behr paint. I love how it immediately brightened up our living room and now the crown molding and white accents pop beautifully throughout. You can see the before paint color here. Also, our living room looks so much bigger now and not as dark! It really is about twice as bright in here and we are loving the change.

potty training in a weekend

pin it & save for later!

If you follow me on Instagram and watch my instastories then you know that we recently potty trained Cristian! We are all doing the happy dance over here! I had so many messages from you guys asking how we did it and I figured writing out a post would be much easier to refer to vs. a video. It felt like it took a little longer than Gabriel because he was trained at a few weeks shy of turning two. Cristian is two years four months old. But we had to keep reminding ourselves that every child is different and he would start using the bathroom on his own when he was ready. I feel like I should start this post with a disclaimer ha! The reason is because we're big believers in allowing our little's to let us know when they're ready. I think that's the biggest challenge! I also don't want this post to come off as some sort of rule set that you need to follow and if you follow everything to the letter then: boom! You're child will be potty-trained. When we all know that's probably not going to be the case. However, I hope that within these tips you can glean some information that might help you in the process.

project babywearing and the HOPE Network

I first started babywearing when Gabriel was born because it was a practical way to have my hands free while staying at home with him. I quickly realized it was so much more than that! Babywearing became a way for me to have skin-on-skin time with Gabriel and I later learned that it also helped with normalizing my postpartum hormones. The benefits of babywearing also include babies crying less and learning more because they are closer to mama!

baking on a snowy day & some tips!

Every year when March rolls around I start getting cabin fever! It's usually freezing here in Wisconsin and I've just about had enough of the cold. But this year it's been a little more challenging because we got a random stretch of super amazing (60+ degree!) weather in the middle February, which was unbelievable. That really raised my expectations and I totally thought Spring had sprung. That was false, it did not arrive. We got about 9 inches of snow this past week and even though it already melted you just never know in the Midwest! Last year it snowed in May. Therefore, I have to adjust my expectations lol Sometimes I get asked by some of you how do I do it during these cold winter months with three little's. Truthfully, I don't think there's any 'one' trick but a bunch of stuff that I try to help with those extra long days.  One of those tricks is baking. I absolutely love baking with the boys and now Lucia #babywearingforthewin ! The warmth of the oven and fresh homemade goods are a plus and they really enjoy helping.

bilingual tips!

Pin it & save for later!

Hola! I'm so excited to share more about what we do to help raise our babies bilingual. To be completely honest with you all we've kind of been making it up as we go lol! I am a native Spanish speaker and my parents raised me speaking only Spanish at home.
