mother's day gift guide

I hope your week has been going great! We've had a mix of cold and really warm weather but all in all I'm so happy it's not going to snow anymore! We are also passed the half-way mark with packing and I can't wait to start moving things over in May. Our movers won't be picking up the bigger stuff for another couple of week's but at least we'll start the moving process and I'm so excited! I wanted to share a quick Mother's Day gift-guide today since it's coming up soon. I love that there's a day set aside to celebrate momma's and all that we do. I think it's safe to say that sleep is at the top of my list haha! Everything else though is a close second ;) I tried to find items at different price points and for all the different momma's in your life!

what's in my hospital bag & $75 Pink Blush Giveaway!

I can't believe I'm at the point where I'm packing my hospital bag! I'm coming up on 34 weeks and with the move it seemed appropriate to have this all set because I'll be full-term in just a few weeks! Although both boys waited until the 40 + week mark we never really know. Though I hope she stays nice and snug until her due date. When Gabriel was born I totally over packed and only used half of the stuff I took with me. With Cristian I packed more useful items but I forgot a few things that could have been very helpful, namely larger panties ::insert monkey covering eyes emoji here:: Which, I also did not photograph but we all know what those look like haha! This time around I am taking everything that I know I will likely use even though I probably missed some thing either way! In this layout, I did forget to photograph one important thing that I always make sure to bring for both the birthing floor and the 'mommy and me' floor where I'm transferred after I give birth. That's snacks/treats and a thank you card for the nurses and staff. They are always so appreciative and it's a small gesture of gratitude for all that they do.

And so excited to team-up with Pink Blush Maternity to bring you a $75 Giveaway- more of that at the end of the post!

Here are the things that I didn't pack because the hospital/birthing center provides: pads and slippers. Also, not pictured my big camera and makeup bag.  I hope this list is helpful and if you have anything that you found useful please share in the comments!

1. Nursing Tank & my going home outfit: I like to layer nursing tanks under my robe postpartum because it's so much more comfortable to nurse and walk around that way. I like this tank because it's stretchy and I feel like I have more support.

2. My Ipad: Listening to music really helps soothe me during the birthing process and postpartum. I already started my playlist and if you follow me on Snap Chat you already know how random my music tastes are haha!

3. Sleep Nursing bras: If you plan to nurse you really can never have too many nursing bras!

4. S'well water bottle (these are the same concept but at a more affordable price!): I love my water bottle haha! Seriously though it keeps things cold for 24 hours and hot for 14- I'm also not a huge fan of the Styrofoam cups they provide at my hospital and it'll be nice to fill up my own bottle.

5. Face wipes (I get mine at Costco): Right after birth I shower as soon as I can but in the mean time a fresh face wipe always helps to help me feel more comfortable and clean! It's also nice to freshen my face throughout my stay!

6. My postpartum corsette: I talked more about it here - it is truly a life saver!
[On a side note, I ordered this in my pre-pregnancy size and it's the one that's specified for "curvy" figures. Make sure to read the description to purchase the one that will be right for your figure.]

7. Baby girl's going home outfit & onesies- This one is always really hard for me to choose haha! I usually bring about two comfy pj type outfits and a cute going home hat!

8. Face wash & lotion: Cetaphil has been my go-to for years! I have pretty sensitive skin and this works really well for me!

9. Hospital Robe: It's always so nice to bring your own clothes when you have to stay at the hospital. It's bad enough that you have to deal with those thin mattresses! This one from Pink Blush Maternity is really light and soft. I also love the pretty floral pattern! I'm usually in my robe, comfy leggings and a nursing tank the entire stay.

10. Nursing-friendly pj's (these are so comfy!) - I can't recommend bringing your own set of pj's enough! Trust me when I say you don't want to wear the hospital gown. Treat yourself and buy a comfy set that you'll love to wear!

11. Burp Cloths: I always like to bring my own soft burp cloth instead of using the rough hospital towels. I'm always so OCD about our baby's soft skin!

12. Cover me Poncho/car seat cover: I love how versatile this cover is and it'll be great to use to cover our car seat once we leave the hospital!

13. A weekender bag (adore the design of this one and I always receive compliments!): In the past, I brought a small suitcase but it gets so cumbersome once you have to bend over and are already feeling sore. It's so much easier to bring a cloth weekender that's easier to shuffle around and doesn't take up as much space.

14. Bebe Au Lait swaddlers c/o: I love using our own blankets/muslin swaddlers once we are there. These have the prettiest design and I love how airy they are. I also use them as nursing covers!

15. My Crunchy Mama's lip balm and Bump lotion stick: For some reason my lips gets so dry in the hospital! I love my organic lip balm from Crunchy Mama's! And the ladies were so kind to send me a sample of their "about to pop' stick and I've been using it faithfully this pregnancy. My skin gets so itchy on my bump and this gives me so much relief that I plan to use it postpartum too.

16. My Earth Mama Angel Baby bottom balm, bottom spray and nipple butter: I talk all about their amazingness here!

17. Last but certainly not least my own curly hair products: You can read more about my current curly hair routine & faves here!

Now for the exciting part! I've teamed up with Pink Blush Maternity to bring you a $75 Giveaway! This giftcard can be used for non-maternity items as well.

Newlie Co diaper bag

Newlie Co Lily tote via Newlie Co. c/o | floral smock dress via Loft (this runs big I have on a size small)| denim jacket via Target | nude/beige pumps via Nordstrom | sunnies via Sunglassspot | Phone cover via TopShop |My lipstick is 'MAC St. Germain'

Spring is finally here and I couldn't be more grateful! For a second there I thought we'd never see green grass again haha! This weekend was fantastic here in MKE and we were able to enjoy the outdoors, family and our now 3-year-old, Gabriel. I still can't believe it even as I write it out. How can my 7 lb 4 oz baby boy (who wouldn't fall asleep unless he slept on my chest) already be 3?! It's really bittersweet! We are so incredibly grateful for our sweet little guy and we thank God every day for the gift of his life into our family. He was just the cutest singing, "Happy Birthday to meee!" all weekend and picking out toys not only for him but for, "Hermano too! (my brother too!) He truly is a big heart and I am so honored to be his mama. I cannot wait to be able to witness him grow some more!

For today's post I am featuring my Newlie Co. Lily tote. This tote is actually a diaper bag and it's my current favorite! I love how spacious it is and there are more styles (including backpacks) available as well. I love the interior and the sleek design. It's big enough to fit a laptop and it has an insulated pocket for beverages! This one has a removable strap and it is not bulky, which is a huge plus for me because I rather have usable space and not extra bulk! It's also affordable and I know that I'll be using this post-baby stage too.

The dress I'm wearing is non-maternity but since the style is so flowy-it works! I used the cloth belt above my bump and it gave the dress a bit more structure. However, it looks really cute as a shift style as well. I've also wanted a lighter denim jacket and this one  was such a great deal that I had to have it (I'm wearing my pre-pregnancy size small). I paired it with my nude/beige pumps which have become a staple in my closet! I am so excited for the warmer weather ahead and I hope that wherever you are Spring has made an appearance too!

Wishing you a great week ahead!

Instagram round-up!

Happy weekend, guys! I hope it's off to a great start for you. Spring has finally sprung in our area and it's supposed to be in the 70's this weekend! If you follow me on Snap Chat (@MommyinMKE) you know that it's been pretty busy over here with packing, Gabriel's birthday this weekend, and I shared a view into our new home! We're really looking forward to moving into our new place and I cannot wait to make it our own. I've been asked a lot if it's been a tough move but I have to say that it really hasn't been as rough as I thought. B's schedule this month has been such a huge blessing and even though we have always planned way ahead in terms of moving, family planning etc. his schedule is always a wild card. We never really know how busy or lax his schedule will be until he receives his schedule a few days before his new monthly rotation starts. Thankfully it has been so great with him being home on the weekend and most days he is home early! All in all, even though moving brings on some challenges I'm so thankful that it's been going well. Thank you to everyone who have been so kind to ask how I'm holding up!

Today's post is a huge round-up of my latest Instagram posts ! With moving we haven't had very much time to photograph many looks for the blog so I've been posting more #ootd's over there. Also, most of these items are on major sale now!

floral kimono  | black jeans (they run big- I sized down) | white dress worn as top | hat

pink coat | Blanqi tank (use code 'BLANQIFRIEND for 20% off your purchase!) | Nike sneakers

Wishing you a great weekend!

postpartum recovery: helpful products & tips!

I hope your week has been fantastic so far and way less snowy than ours... Yes, it is still snowing over here. Honestly, I don't remember when it snowed so much during April! Alas, I'm just taking it as it comes because there's really nothing we can do about it haha!

I've wanted to share a postpartum recovery post for quite some time. If you've been reading my blog for a while now you might remember my Labor Prep Post here and with baby girl on the way I am following the same steps towards a med-free labor. As always, I'm keeping an open mind because these things can change so quickly but I'm hopeful that I'll be able to successfully deliver baby girl in this way as well!

The items that I'll be sharing today are both items that I've used and new one's that I'll be adding based on my experience with both boys labors. And I hope they are helpful for you if you're expecting as well!

Now that I'm 32 weeks+  it's about to get real!

1. Earth Mama Angel Baby Postpartum Bundle: I received my order yesterday and I squealed! B was like- what is going on?! haha! But I was so excited because I cannot speak more highly about this kit. Every item serves a purpose and each one was so helpful after delivering vaginally. I pushed C so quickly (and he was a big baby at 9.5 lb) that I had a small tear. But even if I didn't have a tear delivering vaginally will leave a lot of soreness and change in your peritoneal area. Not included in this kit is the bottom balm that also provided so much relief and cooling (it contains witch hazel and other herbs that help with swelling and discomfort) you can shop the bottom balm here. They also carry C-section recovery items available here as well . What I love most about this kit, other than the relief and quick recovery I experienced, is that they are organic and clean products that I know do not have any extra chemicals that my body can do without!

2. Bellefit postpartum corset : After Gabriel was born I didn't have much change to my abdomen. In fact, I quickly bounced back in that area and healed really quickly. However, with Cristian I experienced diastasis recti and I didn't realize this is what I had until several months after he was born. I did a quick search and found this rebuilding work-out regimen helpful. My entire abdomen felt so weak and heavy after birth that I also quickly realized how helpful a girdle was. This bellefit is amazing (you don't have to remove the whole thing when you use the restroom thanks to the design) and they have one for c-section recovery as well.

3. A good nursing bra this one by Bravado Designs is excellent: If you decide to embark on the breastfeeding journey having a good nursing bra can make all the difference. As a momma who breastfed both boys until they surprisingly weaned at around the same time (14 months) comfort in this area is so helpful!

Earth Mama Angel BabyNipple cream: as an addendum to #3 your breasts will change! When you begin nursing your nipples will become chapped, may crack, bleed and stretch. This is all a part of the process while your body begins to change in order to feed your baby. I ordered my nipple cream along with my postpartum kit because it provides the relief I need. It is heaven-sent! For real!

4. Essential oils: this one is completely new to me! I've only begun this journey with this new therapy and I can't speak to is efficacy quite yet. However, I am hopeful and do believe in the therapy. I'm so excited to use them for postpartum recovery and I'll be sure to update as time goes on!

As always before you use any new product during pregnancy please consult with the medical professional in charge of your care!

If you're expecting soon I hope this is helpful and I wish you all the best in this new chapter of your life! Wishing you all an amazing weekend ahead! If you all have any must-haves for postpartum recovery please let me know below!

spring floral maxi

floral maxi dress via Banana Republic use Code: 'SPRINGFUN' for 40% off your purchase (I purchased one size larger than my pre-pregnancy size since it's non-maternity) | black strappy heels via Target | teal droplet earrings old similar here | black clutch on clearance  | My lipstick is "Saint Germain' by MAC

I hope you all had a great weekend! Ours was really nice especially since B's new rotation allows him to be home on the weekends this month. Which means that we got a lot done around here in terms of moving and getting things organized. I'm getting more and more excited to be in our new home! I think as time goes on I'll be sharing more home-inspired posts and style. I am not an interior stylist by any means but becoming a professional pinner haha! And I always find those types of posts helpful and am so excited for this new chapter in our lives!

Recently, I have been on the search for a floral maxi dress but hadn't found something that I loved. The weather has been crazy here and I'm sure all of your local folks can agree! On Saturday it snowed and Sunday it was in the 60's which is so crazy! Anyway I figured even though the weather is all over the place I'd still wishfully move forward and buy more Spring clothes. What I love about this maxi besides the beautiful pattern and flowy fabric is that it's non-maternity. I don't like buying a lot of maternity clothes because they are designed in a way that don't quite work postpartum. However, this one works because of the empire waist and side zipper (which makes it great for nursing as well). I know I'll get a lot of use from it this Spring/Summer. Also, pockets!

I styled it a little dressier because of wedding season coming up. But I think it would look gorgeous with a jean jacket and flat strappy sandals for a more casual vibe. I'll likely wear it that way too and share over on Instagram.

Are you guys on the hunt for any particular item this season?!

Wishing you a fantastic week ahead!

spring shoes

Happy April, guys! I still can't believe it but let me tell you I am so excited for a fresh new month. B just got done with a really crazy rotation in the ICU in March and we're all celebrating that we got through it. This month is looking a lot less hectic in terms of work for him and that means that we get him on the weekends! Which means more hands for playing, packing and hugging hehe!

Today I wanted to share some Spring shoes that are right on point for warmer weather. I recently ordered these sneakers and I am obsessed with the platform heel. It gives me a little bit of height without toppling me over with the ever growing bump haha! They run true to size and I can't wait to wear them out! You can shop them here.

Yay for warmer weather! :)

Wishing you a great month and weekend ahead! What are you looking forward to this April?!
