bilingual baby tips: toys

I wanted to share some of our favorite bilingual toys! We've had these for a while and they've been helpful in teaching Gabriel certain words that I sometimes forget. I like to think of toys as tools in helping parents interact with their littles. Of course, I let Gabriel play by himself but I also play along with him and ask him questions that pertain to the toys. It's a great way to repeat the words and expand his (and my) vocabulary in Spanish!

 1. This toy car has been one of Gabriel's favorite since he received it for his Birthday last year! It has both tools, music and some catchy tunes that we end up singing out loud a lot!

2. I admit there is a lot going on with this learning table! But I really like it because it has a wealth of Spanish songs and words. The trick to letting them stick with your little is repeating them out loud. After all you cannot expect the toy to teach your child ;)

3. It's never too early to start whipping out the flash cards! Even if your child is not speaking yet their brain is processing hundreds of words a day and flash cards can help just as much a s reading!

We were also interviewed by the Linguist and teacher Audrey from Espanolita blog for her Friday Family Series and we answered a few questions on our bilingual journey! She has an amazing blog for parents with wonderful ideas for teaching your children another language! I hope you hop on over and give it a read.
Happy Friday!

The other day I looked over at our front shelf where we put our keys and noticed the huge pile of magazines that I used to love reading. I would flip through the pages and find ideas and for a few minutes I would escape the bitter cold of the Midwest and be transported to some exotic location (where of course I envision going some day). But the truth is I have had very little down time since Cristian was born to myself. Between mi amor not being home because of his demanding schedule and an even more demanding soon to be two year old my days are full of toddler meltdowns. These meltdowns are courtesy of Gabriel not wanting any help from me and at the same time wanting help from me. Add to the mix a newborn with a very different set of needs that require me to nurse him every hour to two while he experiences yet another growth spurt. Which leaves me absolutely exhausted at the end of the day. Let's not even talk about the current state of our apartment.

And I realize this sounds like a complete pity party but it's the truth. The boys have been sick for over a week and I've become a pro at cleaning snot from our couches. And to add insult to injury I always find some random quote that says, "Embrace the moment or else.." blah blah blah... And yes I sympathize with the writer because yes we are not promised another moment with our little ones. But what these Pinterests quotes never explain is how in the heck do you embrace the moment when you're changing another up-the-back poop explosion and are setting your toddler on time-out for the umpteenth time?! How do they expect me to embrace poop?! And how in the world do I find the joy in doing these things?!

I've come to realize that embracing the moment doesn't mean you're going through life living in a bubble of bliss. Where everything is rosy dosey and  you're obliviously smiling through your two-year-old pulling your hair. Or exhaling "om" while your newborn starts learning to bite (that hurts just as much with or without teeth!). No, no my friends that it NOT what it means to embrace the moment. Embracing the moment means fully being present to whatever emotion you are feeling. It's accepting the anger and realizing that is only temporary. It's realizing that yes you will not have time to read those magazines and that when you begin reading them you will get interrupted at least ten times. Embracing the moment is accepting your current situation and being able to find the good in what is happening. It's finding perspective by acknowledging how fleeting these moments truly are.

My husband finished another Peds rotation and some of the stories that he has shared with me often leave me in tears. I ask why would anyone do that? Or how excruciatingly heartbreaking that child was born seriously ill and will not live past their 2 month birthday... Perspective folks. Perspective is the key to embracing the moment. Right now my boys are healthy, can manage speaking to me and or yelling and can poop on their own. Right now my boys can smile and give me the best sloppy kisses. Right now they are living. Momma's it's okay to get upset and have very messy days or weeks in my case. It is okay to not smile through the worse of your little's meltdowns. It is okay and you will be okay.

So yeah those are all of the magazines I haven't been able to read since Cristian was born. But guess which smile I'd rather look at?

old & new

I hope you all had a great weekend! We were able to celebrate my sister's baby shower and we are so excited to meet our newest niece soon! Recently, I posted on Instagram how I am becoming more and more interested in capsule wardrobes. For those of you not familiar with the concept basically one puts together a wardrobe for every season and the focus is on simplicity. What draws me to this is the idea that we do not need a ton of clothes but rather key pieces that can be mixed up! So I've slowly started a sort of process (not really) where I've combed through my clothes and started donating/giving away. I've kept some of the pieces that are necessary and in my opinion timeless. I really have no idea what I'm doing, haha! But so far it's been fun organizing, giving away and putting together new looks with both old and new.

This top is a new find from The Limited and I love how chic and functional it is for nursing. And I've owned these slacks for ten years! The key to making clothes look like new is how you wash and iron them :) I hope you have a great Monday and stay warm!

earth mama angel baby review & giveaway

Full Disclosure: I was provided with complimentary items from Earth Mama Angel Baby to facilitate this post. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Thank you for supporting brands that help support Mommy in Milwaukee!

Before I was contacted by Earth Mama Angel Baby to review their post-partum recovery essentials bundle I was already a huge fan of their products. If you've been reading my blog for a bit now you might remember that I swear by their red raspberry leaf tea for my labor prep. So I was so exited to test out the products in the bundle!

After Gabriel was born I healed rather quickly. I had a natural med-free birth with him as well and I only used the products that the hospital provided for both vaginal and bottom healing. This time around after Cristian's birth I used the products in my bundle. Since I had a med-free vaginal birth with both boys I knew what to expect in terms of healing with my body. However, because Cristian was born so quickly and was 2 lbs heavier than his older brother, I had a tear. But let's face it regardless of who was bigger I was very sensitive in that area after both births!

I want to start off by saying that everything in this bundle was useful! The soothing, cooling Mama Bottom Balm is infused with healing organic herbs and was a life saver for me. I used the New Mama Bottom Spray cooling perineal mist every time I cleansed and used the restroom and it was both soothing and refreshing. Every product in the bundle is USDA Certified 100% Organic and safe. The Postpartum Bath Herbs’  are full of healing goodness and antibacterial herbs to help prevent infection. It's made up of mostly witch hazel which is what's used in most hospitals for perineal recovery. But this is all-natural, organic and without any additional chemicals. And as a breast-feeding momma I've become more conscious of what I put on and in my body. I also started drinking the Monthly Comfort Tea right away and since I'm a big tea drinker this quickly became a fave of mine. Although I had a tear and was overall more sensitive after Cristian's birth I healed faster than with Gabriel. Both the swelling and sensitivity were decreased within days and I know I have to thank these herbs for that!

As with all of Earth Mama Angel Baby products that I've tried this bundle provides the healing that a new momma needs all in a very safe and organic way.

Earth Mama Angel Baby is giving away one Postpartum Recovery Essentials bundle to one of my lucky readers! Please enter below using the rafflecopter widget. One winner will be emailed Wednesday February 26, 2015. Good Luck!! Sorry only open to U.S. and Canada residents.

IG food lately...

So I've realized that I post quite a bit of food on my Instagram feed that I forget to post here. And a lot of times I post a quick recipe with it. In hopes to provide continuity with the food I post there and here my goal is the share a weekly post of all my IG food on the blog! :)

Enjoy and I hope it's helpful! Happy Fri-yay!

Super easy lunch idea if you have any leftover pizza fry an egg on top and voila yummy and easy lunch!  Gabriel loved it! I got the idea from @thekittchenm on Instagram!

I've been slacking with breakfast lately. I either forget or end up eating unspeakable things... So I'm making an effort to eat a healthy filling meal. This is old fashioned rolled oats made with organic rice milk, cinammon and vanilla. I added a banana, walnuts and craisins. This is easily my favorite go-to breakfast now.

I wanted to make some thoughtful and yummy gifts for some gals in my life and I found this super cute and easy idea online at Just a Pinch- I love how it turned out! And who doesn't love some homemade cookies?!

I love to make sandwiches because you can layer them and not go wrong! I made this using naan bread, sliced Gala apples, spinach, mâché, sliced cheddar cheese and a fried egg (eggs on everything!).

This meal was a total accident because I had no idea what to make for dinner. However, it turned out so delicious I make it every other week!

You'll need:

2 chicken breasts
1 chopped green pepper
1 can navy beans rinsed & drained
1 bunch Chopped cilantro
1 tbsp olive oil
2 chopped roma tomatoes
1 chopped small white onion
Salt & pepper to taste

To make:

Grill already seasoned chicken in oil and wait until it is almost half-way cooked then remove. Add all of the veggies and grill with leftover oil. Sautee all of the veggies until they are lightly brown. Add the chicken and stir occasionally. Once you see that the chicken is cooked fully add the beans. Leave covered for about 5-10 minutes stirring occasionally. Add salt and pepper as you'd like and you're all set!

jams review!

Hey, guys! I hope your week has been great. It's Friday eve and I'm doing the happy dance over here! I'm excited to have mi amor home this weekend and get the Valentine's Day festivities started. :) Speaking of festivities my nails are now V-day ready! I was so excited when my momma friend, Chel's from That's so Chelish asked me to try out and review her Jamberry Nails! I'll keep this review short and sweet. These things are great.

The pros: there's no dry time, they lasted, no stinky fumes and they come in all these fun designs!
The con's: you have to heat them with a blow dryer ( I almost threw mine out a few weeks ago!) and it took me a few attempts to try and heat the wraps. But once I did my 4th nail I became a pro!

** Edit- Chelsea just informed me in the comments that Jamberry offers a heater for your wraps! So that solves that con. But it really isn't all horrible just takes some maneuvering😉 thanks Chels!

Do I recommend this product?: Yes, especially for busy momma's. You'll get a cute manicure you can do at home. And because there is no dry time if you end up having to pick up your little (like I did several times during the process) your nails will not get ruined! No more helplessness while your nails dry- woohoo!

Here's Chel's Jamberry link if you'd like to try em out yourself! I think you'll love them!

You get this fun little kit!

I'm loving this floral design :)

My toes haven't looked this good since before Cristian!

I hope you give them a try and Happy Thursday!

weekly moments

I've got some weekly moments for you guys. Cristian's little toes during his day naps, Gabriel saying good bye to Papi before night shift and lots of day time smiles. Some would call these moments just ordinary but I call it the beautiful stuff of life.

Hope you're having a great week!

pattern mixing

I hope you all had a great weekend! We had my parents come to visit and it was so great to see them for a bit! On Friday we met up with a new blogger friend Chelsea from This Grand Adventure that just had a baby boy! And they are both so beautiful. It was so nice meeting up and again I'm just so amazed and thankful for the Instagram and blogger community. We decided to meet up at the Mitchell Domes and Chelsea was so gracious and offered to take pics of me! I just had to laugh because of course she understands the struggle of taking pics for blog posts, haha! And now with Cristian it's a bit more challenging so I jumped at the offer ;) I love this flowy polka dot layered top from The Limited. I purchased it in store and had to size down. It is a new arrival and for some reason I could not find the link online! But I'll link a similar one otherwise check in store for this print. I had to mix it up with these gorgeous floral pants! I love that I'll be able to wear them in the warmer months as well.

I also teamed up with 9 other life and style bloggers on Instagram and we are hosting a $250 Target gift card giveaway! So if you're not on Instgram- get on it! :)

Have a great Monday!

two under two must-haves

Now that I am almost three months into becoming a momma of two under two I figured it was time to share some of my must-haves! These are the top ten items that have been life savers for me. Some of these items have been carried over from when Gabriel was younger and work just as well for any new momma. When it comes to baby items I am a very practical shopper. I like to buy items that will last even if the initial investment is a bit more expensive. And that means anything that has eased my days of running around and helped me stay active during the freezing winter months. I hope this short list helps any of you that have been on the fence of what to buy for your second little one on the way. Or any first time momma who need ideas for their registry. I can honestly say that each and every one of these items have been essential and truly make it easier for me to handle my day to day tasks!

two under two must-haves

1. Arm's Reach Original Co-Sleeper Natural
This co-sleeper is in one word, amazing. It attaches to the side of our bed and has a side that is at the level of our mattress. It's super easy to breastfeed and keep Cristian close at night. It's really the only reason why I can function during the day! It also turns into a play yard once your little grows out of the co-sleeper.

2. JJ Cole Original Infant Bundleme, Pink, Infant
We love this car seat cover! It was a gift and I am so thankful for it. Since we live in one of the most coldest states it's necessary to have a cover for our car seats. This is so cozy and easy to remove to wash. It keeps Cristian warm especially when I am taking him out of the car in the freezing wind.

3. Nutiva Organic Virgin Coconut Oil, Glass, 15 oz: Health &...
Oh coconut oil..need I say more?! I use it as a lotion, hair care, nursing care and recently as a cradle cap treatment. I might have to write a separate post on all its uses!

4. aden anais Muslin Stroller Blanket
We never swaddled the boys because they are half-ninja but I love how lightweight these are and I use them instead as nursing covers.

5. Exercise Stability Ball For Yoga Balance Fitness Pilates Workout...
You guys know I swear by my birthing ball before during and after pregnancy! Here's another trick I use it for, when Cristian is fussy I bounce on the ball with him on my shoulder. He falls asleep every time! Just remember to bounce gently and tighten your abs- you'll get a work-out in!

6. Graco Duo 2-in-1 Swing
We received this as a gift at Gabriel's shower and of course Gabriel was not a fan. However, Cristian does not mind it at all. I don't like him swinging in here for more than 15 minutes but I love that it has music. It also has a removable bouncy seat and that is so helpful when he's awake while Gabriel is asleep and I need a quick shower. I just bring him into the bathroom with me and he is content sitting there a few minutes while I get ready!

7. Medela Breast Pump
If you're looking for a breast pump that does its job and works well after using it for over a year buy this one! Also, check with your insurance because most cover breasts pumps now!
 8. Philips AVENT BPA Free 0 3 Months Soothie Pacifier 2 Pack Blue Avent
Gabriel never took a pacifier but Cristian does and  he loves this one. I'm not exactly sure why but he refuses any other one!

9. Organic Baby Carrier
Those of you that follow me on Instagram know that I post quite a bit of pics of us baby wearing. The reasons that I choose to baby wear are simple; I love to keep the boys close and it helps my day to day tasks flow more easily when Cristian needs to be held. Especially when I am doing laundry and need to walk across our apartment building. The ergo is so lightweight and easy to use. I love that I don't have to spend too much time wrapping since I have to keep an eye on Gabriel as well. It's also very versatile and you can back carry!

10, : Lifefactory Glass Baby Bottles 4 Pack Starter Kit (9 oz.
These are both bottles and sippy cups! Although they are glass they are so sturdy. We have had Gabriel's set for almost two years and they have survived multiple throws off car seats, shopping carts and highchairs.
What are your must-haves? I'd love to know!
Abrazos, Keila

big G little C

Yesterday, we had the sweetest little sprinkle shower held for us by some of my momma friends. I was so surprised! And as you could imagine feeling so blessed to have people like that in our lives. At the sprinkle we were given some blank tees and everyone decorated them. I loved that they included a bigger tee for Gabriel! It's always so great to include him with his new little brother.

These were the tees that I decorated with a friend. And it reminds me of Gabriel's blossoming personality right now. He has taken the big brother role so seriously lately! He is constantly protecting his brother and making sure he is okay. The other day we went to Cristian's two month appointment and while the Dr. was checking him he kept rubbing his baby brother's back as if to comfort him while he was checked. Well then of course in that moment my heart swells and skips a beat. These boys already love each other so much!

Then other days Gabriel shoves his brother and grabs his hands then I sternly remind him he needs to be gentle... But I know it's just part of the big brother territory. I knew that having these boys so close together would be a lot of work. And a lot of times I feel so exhausted that I just don't know how I can wake up in the morning and do it all over again. Then I look at pictures like this and it's as if Gabriel reminds me that he is so happy he has a baby brother. And that he is is so thankful that now he has a built-in best friend.

I have a lot of hopes for my boys... I hope that they will always be there for each other in every stage of life. And I hope and pray that their friendship will strengthen their lives in every single way.

I love you baby boys. Your love for each other gives me hope and reminds me of why I am beyond lucky to be your momma.

hello, February!

I hope you all had a great weekend! How about that giant metal tiger?!#meow I kind of want one for my self but alas I'll have to settle for my regular ride. I have to admit I wasn't really looking forward to the big game since the Packers weren't playing... but I was looking forward to the half time show! And woah I was not disappointed. And while all that fun happened it kept snowing over here! We had big plans to go out as a family this weekend but there was so much snow we were stuck quite a few times. Which brings me to this outfit. It was the one that could have been. So of course I went out to take some pictures because it was a perfectly good outfit and all of these items are on sale now!

Hope you all have a great week and if you are also stuck in the snow- stay safe and don't forget to take pics!

IG food lately

I figured I should share my last pasta dish on here vs. my IG since the details are a bit longer for a caption, after a few of you asked for the recipe :)

I hope you're all having a great week and as for us TWO more days till Match Day!

You will need:
two chicken breasts cut in squares
two handfuls of baby spinach
12 oz Rigatoni pasta
1 cup chopped chives
1/2 cup bread crumbs
salt & pepper to taste
1tsp onion powder
one large tomato chopped
2 tbsp olive oil
3 tbsp lemon juice

To make:
Prepare pasta, drain and set aside. Add one tbsp of olive oil to medium hot pan and lightly saute the chopped tomato and chives. You don't want them to be overcooked I like to make sure the chives are still green instead of olive. It'll be about 3 minutes or so then remove them from the pan and set aside. Leave the pan on so that it maintains heat for the next step.

After you have thawed the chicken cut it in squares and add the onion powder, salt, pepper and breadcrumbs. Mix it all together with your hands and season. Add one tbsp olive oil to pan and add the chicken. Because the chicken is cut into squares it'll cook a lot faster. And once you add the pasta and other veggies it'll cook completely. After you see that the chicken is almost fully cooked, add one tbsp lemon juice to the chicken stir it a bit then add the pasta, chives & tomatoes you set aside. Mix it all together and finally add the baby spinach. I like to add these last so that they do not overcook. You still want to have them wilt bit save their vitamin goodness! Lastly, add the last bit of lemon juice, mix and enjoy! This should serve about 4-6 people or enough for lunch the next day :)
